Goal and Philosophy

The Heathfield Partnership has set up the Farmers Market to be highly visible in a centralised locations in the centre of Heathfield to attract the maximum trade for the Farmers and ensure the market Town of Heathfield keeps to its roots by offering Farmers, growers and general producers an avenue to sell their wares as has happened over many centuries. We have for sale each month a fantastic choice of locally produced food to suit all palates, our stall holders include:

  • Farmers, both Meat and Dairy, including Organic Produce.
  • Fresh in season Vegetables.
  • Small scale local food processors producing Pies, Cakes, Bread, Cheese and Butter, all produced using whenever possible locally produced ingredients.
  • Beekeepers selling locally produced honey.
  • Hand made locally produced arts and crafts.

Heathfield market believe that:

  • Farmers' markets contribute to lively communities.
  • Farmers markets meet certain community needs that had been swept aside in pursuit of a "modern" food distribution system.
  • Farmers' markets educate consumers about how their food is grown and processed.
  • Support small family farmers, whose continued existence depends on direct marketing opportunities, and related small-scale economic activity.
  • Protect air quality and the environment by shortening the distance food travels from farm to consumer and encouraging sustainable agriculture practices.
  • Create a community activity that helps revitalize Market Towns, Villages and other community services.

The Heathfield Farmers Market is Certified by FARMA, the Farm and Retail Marketing Association, this involves an inspection by the Soil Association and guarantees that the Market meets a high standard and that all the Stallholders comply with strict standards which include produce being produced locally by the Stallholder, and that where items are cooked or baked all the ingredients are produced locally where possible. The Market was recently inspected in and the inspector said that Heathfield was one of the best Markets that he has inspected.
